Outline System Architecture
Technical Information
New Media Intelligence provides a highly focused new media monitoring
service. The firm has developed its own technology to underpin this
service. The application works like a highly specialised search engine,
constantly checking thousands of sites for news. A diagram of the overall
system is shown below.
Stability & Security
As our system is essential to our business we take strenous efforts
to ensure that our sytem is both stable and secure. We use multiple
replicated servers in a carrier grade data centre. We have a 99.999%
Service Level Agreement with our provider. All data is dynamically backed-up
and is held securely. We do not permit access to our data by any third
party under any circumstances.
NMI's indexing application works like a highly specialised search engine, constantly checking thousands of sites for news. A diagram of the overall system is shown below.

An Overview of How Our Technology Works
World Wide Web
Content from most types of web page are monitored including media websites,
weblogs, newsgroups, the sites of pressure groups and other "activist"
pages. We even cover track content on corporate websites so you can monitor
your competitors.
Indexing Application
Located in a secure data centre our proprietary software application monitors
our "universe" of websites 24/7/365. Most sites are indexed at 30 minute
intervals. Articles and other relevant content are extracted from the
web pages and then added to a database. Articles undergo multi-stage checks
to remove duplicate items and ensure content is correctly classified with
appropriate meta-data such as media source and publishing date.
Reporting Application
The reporting application runs in parallel with the NMI indexer. Customer
monitoring requirements are translated via the Project Management Interface
into search strings, monitoring lists, reporting frequencies and formats.
It is at this stage that reporting becomes tailored to precise customer
needs. The article database is then searched and content matching the
client's brief is identified.
Customer
Relevant content is then supplied to the customer in a variety of reporting
formats including XML, RSS, HTML, WORD and of course via the portal interface.
Bespoke formats can be developed on request.
